J Diorgano Tellurium Dihydroxides

Diorgano tellurium dihydroxides have been obtained by treating diorgano tellurium dihalides with aqueous sodium hydroxide or with an aqueous suspension of silver oxide. 

Bis[4-hydroxy-3-methylphenyl] Tellurium Dihydroxide0.41 g (1 mmol) of bis[4-hydroxy-3-methylphenyl] tellurium dichloride are dissolved in water, the solution is stirred, and 20 ml (4 mmol) of 0.2 molar aqueous sodium hydroxide solution arc slowly added. The mixture is then filtered, the solid is washed with water followed by acetone/water (1/4, v/v), and the product is dried over phosphorus pentoxide under vacuum yield 0.30 g (80%). Conversion to the oxide occurred upon heating at 100°. 

Dialkyl tellurium dihydroxides were also obtained by oxidation of dialkyl tellurium compounds with (V-chlorosuccinimide and treatment of the oxidation products with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide.
