Isoquinolines 1-subst

Synthesis of 1-subst. 2-carbamyM,2-dihydroisoquinolines from isoquinolines and isocyanates... 

A soln. of N,N-diethyl-o-toluamide in THF added to /-Pr2NLi in the same solvent at — 70°, a soln. of isoquinoline in THF added dropwise, followed by benzyl chloride, allowed to warm to room temp., and poured into 5% aq. HCl - 4-benzylisoquinoline. Y 78%. F.e. from subst. benzyl chlorides s. R.D. Clark, Heterocycles 26, 2945-8 (1987). 

Improved cyclohydrations could be performed with cyclic acetals in place of the previously used imino derivatives of 0x0 compounds such as oximes or semicarbazones A facile ring closure of suitably o-subst. benzonitriles to anthracene rings has been published. Gyclization of dinitriles with hydrogen halides affords an efficient isoquinoline ring synthesis...
