ISOBUTYL ALUMINUM DICHLORIDE

Graft copolymers consisting of poly(n-octylallene-co-styrene) (PALST) as backbone and PCL as side chains were synthesized with the combination of coordination copolymerization of n-octylallene and styrene (catalyzed by the mixture of bis[N,N-(3,5-di-t rt-butylsalicylidene)anilinato]titanium(IV) dichloride and tri-isobutyl aluminum (Al(iBu)3)) and the ROP of s-CL (catalyzed by Sn(Oct)2). The hydroxyl functionalized copolymers, which serve as macroinitiator for ROP of CL, were prepared by the reaction of mercaptoethanol with the pendant double bond of PALST in the presence of radical initiator. The reaction is presented in Figure 9.
