Island arcs, accretion

Taylor and McLennan (1985, 1995), like Taylor s previous estimates (Taylor, 1967, 1977), derived their cmst composition using an approach based on assumptions about its formation processes. They assumed that 75% of the cmst grew during the Archean from bimodal volcanism and the remaining 25% originated from post-Archean accretion of island arcs having an average andesite composition (from Taylor, 1977). To constrain the proportions of mafic- to felsic-Archean volcanics, they used heat-flow data... [Pg.1310]
