Ion storage rings

We will be rather brief in describing the principles of the experimental methods that are most commonly used in studies of dissociative recombination, afterglows and colliding beams (merged beams and ion storage rings). It should suffice to recount some of their generic properties. [Pg.51]

After publication of the ion-storage-ring data, new recombination mechanisms were proposed1 that do not require crossings between ionic and neutral potential curves. However, no detailed calculations have been made for Hj and it is not yet clear if such mechanisms are capable of explaining the experimental findings. [Pg.56]

The principal advantages of using an ion storage ring for the study of electron-molecular ion interaction can be summarized in the following points. [Pg.183]

In the first ion storage ring experiment, it was shown that recombination of HD has peaks in the cross section at high electron energies ( 9 eV), which are due to Rydberg states converging to HD" The mechanism... [Pg.185]

Several diatomic molecular ions have been investigated with respect to the final atomic state distribution in dissociative recombination. The reader is referred to Ref. 12 for a fairly complete discussion of those diatomic ions that have been studied in ion storage rings. In this section, we deal exclusively with Oj ... [Pg.195]
