Caramel. Officially, the color additive caramel is the dark brown Hquid or soHd material resulting from the carefully controlled heat treatment of the following food-grade carbohydrates dextrose, invert sugar, lactose, malt symp, molasses, starch hydrolysates and fractions thereof, or sucrose.
