Intermolecular effects, applications

The main features in a normal X-ray or neutron diffraction pattern arise from inter-molecular interference, so it would be possible to determine the orientational order parameters for a distribution of local groups of molecules rather than the single molecule distribution. An early application of neutron diffraction was to find an inframolecular interference at high Q where intermolecular effects have died away. This is more practical with neutron diffraction, because the atomic form factor for X-rays also dies away at high Q. The angular distribution of such... [Pg.714]

There is probably no better evidence for a template effect than its application directly in the solution of a synthetic problem. Rastetter and PhiUion have utilized a substituted 19-crown-6 compound (shown below in Eq. 2.9) in the formation of macrocyclic lactones. Although there were certain experimental variations and the the possibility of intermolecular potassium ion complexation, the overall formation of lactone was favorable. [Pg.17]

This manuscript describes the dendritic macromolecules for optical and optoelectronic apph-cations, particularly stimulated emission, laser emission, and nonlinear optics. Dendrimers have been designed and synthesized for these applications based on simple concepts. A coreshell structure, through the encapsulation of active imits by dendritic branches, or a cone-shaped structure, through the step-by-step reactions of active imits, can provide particular benefits for the optical high-gain media and nonlinear optical materials. It also described experimental results that support the methods presented for designing and fabricating functionalized dendrimers for optoelectronic applications, and theoretical results that reveal the intermolecular electronic effect of the dendritic structure. [Pg.205]
