Intergranular corrosion seawater

Exposure to seawater results in decrease in critical stress intensity factor and the susceptibility to SCC68 0.2% Fe improves the resistance to SCC presence of >5 wt percent of A1 increases the velocity of cracking Sn in the alloy decreases SCC resistance chloride bromide and iodide induce or accelerate SCC69 Occurs by trangranular cleavage of a-phase in which a-phase controls the crack propagation rate Intergranular corrosion due to formation of titanium methoxide... [Pg.258]

Critical pitting potentials of 0.38 V (S.H.E.) in IV NaCl and 0.45 V in 0.1 V NaCl [6] indicate that the metal is vulnerable to pitting in seawater. It undergoes intergranular S.C.C. in anhydrous methyl or ethyl alcohol containing HCl, but not when a small amount of water is added [7]. This behavior, similar to that of commercial titanium, suggests that stress may not be necessary and that the failure is perhaps better described as intergranular corrosion. [Pg.437]

Investigations into the effects of arsenic and phosphorus in single-phase brasses on their susceptibility to intergranular attack and stress-corrosion cracking in seawater have shown that the normal addition of arsenic to... [Pg.708]
