Interaction potential between a single

Wada, K., Sasaki, K. and Masuhara, H. (2000) Optical measurement of interaction potentials between a single microparticle and an evanescent field. Appl. Phys. Lett., 76, 2815-2817. [Pg.131]

Let us consider qualitatively the effect of the microemulsion composition on the sulfonate-microemulsion, sulfonate-adsorbent and microemulsion-adsorbent interactions. We assume that the interaction potential between a single sulfonate anion and its nearest-neighbor molecules and ions in the oil-brine interfacial region in the microemulsion is nearly constant within the appropriate series of microemulsions (e.g. A, B, C and D). As a first approximation therefore we consider the sulfonate-microemulsion interactions to be unaffected by microemulsion composition within such a series. [Pg.671]

The interaction potentials between a single particle and a wall can be obtained using evaneseent field scattering in total internal reflection microscopy (TIRM) [69, 70]. The fluctuations of the separation distance resulting from thermal motion can be direetly detected from the scattered intensity. In a typical TIRM set-up a laser beam is directed via a prism to the glass/solution interface as sketched in Fig. 2.36, with an incident angle that is chosen such that total reflection occurs. The eleetric field of the laser beam penetrates the interface causing an... [Pg.100]
