Inter-American Institute for Cooperation

The policy and approaches towards biosafety in developed countries are not necessarily the most adequate for developing countries. There is therefore a need for adapting them to the local circumstances, on the basis of the experience of the most advanced countries. This can be achieved best on a regional basis, due to the lack of national expertise and resources, as the cooperative action of the Inter American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, the Pan American Sanitary Bureau, the Organization of American States, the International Office of Epizootics and the US Department of Agriculture in this matter shows.
