To define mere mechanic components in various abstraction levels could be in some cases reasonable but generally, complex mechaiuc components are already described on system level. Also the interfaces can be allocated to any given system interface. A sheer hydraulic steering will therefore more likely be integrated in system level 1 and parts such as printed circuit boards, plugs etc. probably in the components level. 

Such units are used in the watches with electronic drives instead of the traditional mechanical spring driven drives. Another area where the combination function is being used is in large-scale integrated circuit unit supports where the complex interconnection requirements make a combination circuit support and printed circuit unit an attractive way to achieve high packing efficiency such as computer hardware systems.
