Intaglio printing inks

Inks— Mannich bases derived from naphthol and benzotriazole are additives providing dispersant and anticorrosion properties for intaglio printing and ballpoint pen inks, respectively.

The general configuration of rollers from the ink duct to the printing plate is common in those processes which use paste inks, that is, letterpress, intaglio, and lithography. A typical arrangement is shown in Figure 99. 

Gravure printing employs an intaglio process whereby the print area lies below the surface of the plate in small cells. The tone or colour depth may rely on the depth of etch (i.e. amount of ink which lies in the cells) and/or the number of cells per linear inch. All gravure is basically half tone (solid line gravure plates are used in some tampon or cliche processes). 

Intaglio inks (special inks used to avoid counterfeiting of items such as bank notes) are also employed and ink-jet printing with UV-curable materials is starting.
