Inner circles building

This section discusses personal relationships during retirement. When you complete it, you should be able to build better relationships, create a strong inner-circle support system, do a better job of handling family demands, and explain the difference between the two languages of love and decide which best fits your comfort zone. 

Building an inner circle may appear to be self-serving, but it isn t. It is nothing more than a way to help you focus on your most significant relationships. It is not meant to encourage an exclusive club that would cause you to ignore other friends. In fact, inner circles often motivate people to work toward building new, quality relationships. 

After you choose those you want to include in your inner circle, you will occasionally add a person who has become special in your life. Don t, however, bring someone into your circle simply because you suddenly like him or her. A mature, durable, two-way relationship takes time to develop. In fact, when a new member is added, you should be proud because you helped it occur by building a relationship. 

It is not easy to build an ideal relationship with your adult children. You want them as pillars in your inner-circle support system, but you don t want to lean on them too soon, nor do you want them to lean on you. It is a delicate balance. Tell them you love them and respect their need to be free. Make sure they respect yours.
