Infrared star counts

Key words sky survey - infrared star counts - infrared galaxy counts... [Pg.219]

Ay > 4 magnitudes. The high precision of the determination is the result of relatively small errors in the individual extinctions coupled with the large number of measurements included in the integration. The overall uncertainty in this determination is dominated by the uncertainty in D, the distance to the source. Optical observations suggest a distance of 1 kpc to the cluster (Walker 1959), however comparison of our infrared star counts with galactic models suggest that the cloud is much closer, perhaps only 400 parsecs from the sun (Lada et al. 1993). [Pg.478]
