Induced mesophases in mixtures

The examples of section 1.2.1 show that mesomorphism depends, in an abstract sense, upon ordering and disordering factors which apply themselves simultaneously but in spatially different parts of a molecule. We have seen the consequences of such influences on the ability of single component samples of rod-like molecules to be mesomorphic.
