In-central plant cold recycling

Cold recycling in a central plant is the process in which asphalt removed from the surface of an existing pavement is transported to a central cold mix plant where it may be stockpiled for future use or processed immediately. [Pg.812]

The RA is obtained by cold milling or ripping and may need further crushing and screening. Mixing is carried out by stationary purposely built cold mixing plants, as described in Section 6.5.1. The cold recycling mix can be stockpiled for a short period or immediately transported to the site. [Pg.812]

The recycling agent is bitumen emulsion with the addition of a very small amount of cement or lime. The type, grade and rate of bitumen emulsion and the amount of cement or lime are determined through evaluation of the RA and cold mix design process. The mix design process may dictate the addition and use of new aggregates. [Pg.813]

The placement of the recycled cold asphalt is carried out with conventional hot asphalt mix pavers. However, recycled cold asphalt may be placed by motor graders. [Pg.813]
