Implementation Steps for Model Discrimination

Based on the material presented above, the implementation steps to design the next experiment for the discrimination among r rival model are  

Step 1. Perform a series of initial experiments (based on a factorial design) to obtain initial estimates for the parameters and their covariance matrix for each of the r rival models. 

Step 2. For each grid point of the operability region, compute the Weighted Divergence, D, given by Equation 12.12. In the computations we consider only the models which are adequate at the present time (not all the rival models). 

Step 3. Select the experimental conditions that correspond to a maximum D. 

Step 4. Perform the experiment at the selected experimental conditions.
