Implementation and Numerical Results

Observations were generated running the model with the original description and by adding noise to the model calculated values as follows 

In the first attempt to characterize the reservoir, all 15 layers were treated as separate parameter zones. An initial guess of300 md was used for the permeability of each zone. A diagonal weighting matrix Q, with elements y j (t j) 2 was used. 

After 10 iterations of the Gauss-Newton method the LS objective function was reduced to 0.0147. The estimation problem as defined, is severely ill-conditioned. Although the algorithm did not converged, the estimation part of the program provided estimates of the standard deviation in the parameter values obtained thus far.
