Image analysis preprocessing

Independently on the way of image acquisition, the image-processing analysis consists of the following five steps image acquisition, preprocessing, segmentation, object measurement, and classification. 

This is a commonly used preprocessing in image analysis that works better if it is performed after image denoising. In this way, the baseline is better defined and can, as a consequence, be better subtracted. Again, a typical basehne correction.

Everything that might corrupt the image and hence the image processing results must be removed. Sometimes the lesion is covered with hairs. Preprocessing is required in order to remove them and make image analysis more convenient. 

Prior to data analysis, some preprocessing may be desirable or necessary. Normalization of acquired images to regions that should contain no mRNA (e.g., corpus callosum), which can reduce signal variance (see Ambesi-Impiombato et al., 2003).
