There is about 1 mg of cortexone (also known as deoxycorticosterone or systematically as 4-pregnene-21-ol-3,20-dione) in the prothoracic defensive glands of each beetle of Cybister limbatus. In Ilybius fenestra-tus there is testosterone, oestradiol, three compounds related to cortexone and the quinoline compound in Figure 7.11, which too is toxic to small mammals. [Pg.112]
