A stream of compressed air is slowly passed over the solution to cool it and remove diethyl ether as 10 ilf NaOH is slowly added with vigorous mechanical stining until pH S. After evaporation to dryness, the salt may be isolated as NaCFaS03 H2O from a minimum of hot water ( 80°) upon cooling. [Pg.104]

There is an alterative procedure to centrifugation which is especially suited to smaller-scale preparations. The diluted diethyl ether suspension of the complex is poured onto a large sintered-glass funnel (porosity grade 3 or 4) and the solvent allowed to filter through under gravity over several hours. Further ether is added (twice) and allowed to filter through. Finally, a vacuum is applied and the filter cake is allowed to dry in air and then under vacuum over phosphorus(V) oxide as above.
