Pantethine deriving from the oxidation of pantetheine, was shown to be a precursor of CoA. Moreover, pantethine was shown to reduce glasma cholesterol levels in hypercholesterolemic patients but the mechanism of its action is still not clarified. Studies in vitro on fibroblast cultures demonstrated an inhibitory effect of the drug on cholesterol synthesis fr mevalonate associated with the accumulation of methyl sterols.
