Hydrophobic clustering, pyrene molecules

Fluorescence spectroscopy is a powerful technique to study the formation of hydrophobic aggregates in water solution. Pyrene is one of the most used fluorescent molecules to probe the formation of these kind of aggregates [18]. Pyrene has been extensively used to determine the micellar size [19] and the cmc [18] in urfactant solutions, but also to study the conformational transitions in amphiphilic polymers [20-21] and the cluster formation between surfactants and polymers [20-22].
