Hydrogen peroxide, H2O2 the perhydroxyl ion, OOH

Hydrogen peroxide is marketed as 20 volumes (6%), 40 volumes (12%) and 100 volumes (30%) solutions. It decomposes slowly in cold, but rapidly on heating, to water and oxygen gas  [Pg.244]

H2O2 and OOH To Study its reactions use a 3% (approximately m) solution of hydrogen [Pg.244]

NaB03 4H20 can be used, which hydrolyses rapidly to form hydrogen [Pg.244]

The metaborate ion which is formed does not interfere with the reactions described below. [Pg.245]

Chromium pentoxide test if an acidified solution of hydrogen peroxide is mixed with a little diethyl ether (highly inflammable), amyl alcohol or amyl acetate and a few drops of potassium dichromate solution added and the mixture gently shaken, the upper organic layer is coloured a beautiful blue. For further details, see Section 4.33, reaction 4, and Section 3.24, reaction 6b. The test will detect 0.1 mg of hydrogen peroxide. [Pg.245]
