Hydrodynamic Lord Rayleigh

III. Work of Lord Rayleigh Hydrodynamic Stability Analysis. 82... [Pg.61]

Electrostatic atomization and electrostatically assisted atomization have been employed in a variety of areas, including paint spraying [1], electrostatic printing [2], and cell immobilization [3]. The basic concept behind these applications involves electrostatic forces, which work to disrupt the liquid surface to form a charged stream of fine droplets. The effect of electrostatic forces on mechanically atomized liquid droplets was first studied in detail by Lord Rayleigh [4,5], who investigated hydrodynamic stability of a jet of liquid with and without applied electric field. [Pg.869]

I think some light can be thrown on several of the puzzles mentioned earlier by looking at Reynolds relations with Stokes, who was In close contact with Lord Rayleigh. Beauchamp Tower, the discoverer of hydrodynamic lubrication, was acquainted with Rayleigh as Tower s cousin lived at Weald Hall, which adjoined Rayleigh s estate. [Pg.5]

As shown by Onsager 2T0 d(x.ldt, doLjdt) is equal to the rate of dissipation of free energy, and hence the principle expressed in the form of Eq. 51 is called principle of least dissipation of energy. This is a generalization of a similar principle in hydrodynamics due to Lord Rayleigh. ... [Pg.280]
