Hydrazine use

Pyrazolo-[3,4i>]-quinolines and -pyrazoles have been synthesized by reacting [i-chlorovinylaldehydes and hydrazine or phenyl hydrazine using a catalytic amount of p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA) under the action of microwave irradiation. The yields are much better than under the action of A using the same conditions [105] (Eq. 55). [Pg.101]

Given the toxic nature of hydrazine, it is clearly desirable to reduce the amount of hydrazine used in the spinning process. To this end, high-quality tin chalcogenide films spun using a mixture of water and hydrazine (20% hydrazine in water by volume) have also been demonstrated.47 The electrical properties of these films are comparable with those achieved from films deposited from pure hydrazine. [Pg.87]

Diazirines are the cyclic isomers of the alphatic diazo compounds. Both the diaziridines and the diazirines are starting materials for the synthesis of alkyl hydrazines. 3,3-Pentamethyl-enediaziridine can be hydrolyzed quantitatively to hydrazine. Methylamine may be substituted for ammonia in the procedure resulting in l-methyl-3,3-pentamethylenediaziridine (m.p. 35-36°, yield 62% of theoretical) and then methyl hydrazine. Use of ethylenediamine leads to ethylene bis-hydrazine via a bifunctional diaziridine (m.p. 143-144°, yield 48% of theoretical). Ammonia can also be replaced by w-propylamine or cydo-hexylamine cyclohexanone by acetone. [Pg.107]

Among the reactions of hydrazine used for rocket propulsion that of hydrazine with nitric acid is known. [Pg.308]

The conversion of urea to hydrazine using hypochlorite is known as Shestakov rearrangement.1731 It has been used to obtain a-hydrazino acids from a-amino acid derived hydantoic acids, with chiral retention but in a moderate yield (about 20-40%), using NaOCI.174,751 The use of KOC1, instead of NaOCl, greatly increases the yield of Shestakov rearrangement (Scheme 19).176-781... [Pg.436]

Although the earlier processes for the commercial production of hydrazine used urea as a raw material, modem processes employ direct ammonia oxidation. In one such process, reactions occur in two steps ... [Pg.794]

Chemical kinetics deductions are, in some circumstances, possible from a reaction system using a dispersed solid. If the solid is entirely insoluble, for example a supported catalyst, true surface kinetics can be obtained provided (i) it can be shown that the chemical reaction on the surface is much slower than the associated mass transfer, and (ii) the surface area of the solid can be obtained. These conditions applied in the case of the oxidation of an aqueous solution of hydrazine using a dispersion of insoluble barium chromate [16]. Another case is where it can be shown that an increase in the amount of the solid component does not increase the reaction rate. In this case, exemplified by the formation of benzyl acetate from benzyl bromide and solid sodium acetate in toluene solvent, it is likely that the reaction occurs in the solution phase and that the reaction is proceeding at the saturation concentration of the solid reactant in the liquid phase [17]. [Pg.115]

Other base catalyzed methods for N-carboxylation of amines and hydrazines using CO2 and CS2 to generate the corresponding carbamate or thiocarbamate, respectively, are provided (1). Urea derivatives of Step 1 have also been prepared and are described (2). [Pg.452]

Negligible hydrazinolysis of peptide bonds occurred with hydrazine concentrations less than 30 %. They did, however, observe a loss of amide groups proportional to the concentration of hydrazine used, although only half of this could be found as bound hydrazide. This suggests that at least some of the amide is hydrolyzed by the alkaline conditions rather than hydrazinolyzed. [Pg.161]

The l,l -bis(2-pyrazolin-5-ones) (Table IX) have been prepared by three methods. Two of these are variants on the familiar / -ketoester condensation with hydrazines but in these cases compounds having two hydrazine moieties are used.116,212,255,459,1037 These two methods are illustrated in eq. 85. The R in the hydrazines used in the direct con-... [Pg.57]

Some lactones serve as starting material. y-Phenylazo-y-valerolactone is thermally rearranged to a mixture of pyridazinones 20 and 21 in a ratio of 1.75 1. A complex mechanism is proposed. Pyridazines also result from hydrazines and substituted y-lactones - or -acyl-y-lactones, which react as 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds. y-Chloroketones react with substituted hydrazines to gives pyridazines or Af-aminopyrrolines, depending upon the hydrazine used. ° y-Chlorobutanal gives the corresponding 1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridazine. ... [Pg.371]

Naturally, the hydrazine used had better be anhydrous. Another danger to success is exposure to light. Work should be done under a dim red darkroom bulb. The flask containing the reaction mixture should be wrapped in aluminum foil to exclude light. Procedures such as extractions and filtering should be done as rapidly as possible without causing spills. [Pg.36]
