Hydration of Growing and Aging Anodic Aluminum Oxides

Hydration of Growing and Aging Anodic Aluminum Oxides [Pg.460]

Two aspects of oxide hydration are generally considered. One is hydration during the growth of the oxide. The other is the interaction with water of aging oxides immersed therein. This is important for improving aging stability of oxides and their corrosion resistance.209 [Pg.460]

A number of researchers have assumed that oxide growth involves inward migration of OH- groups from the electrolyte and [Pg.460]

To overcome the shortcomings of interpreting the SIMS data on hydrogen distribution in anodic aluminas, Lanford et al214 have [Pg.461]

However, this does not preclude the possibility that in a portion of the oxide at least (the outer layer), the OH transport mechanism is operative, with the release of protons at the interface between the two oxide layers. Hence, in such a case, some field-assisted proton transfer is likely to take place through the outer layer while chemical dissolution should be operative at the outer O/S interface. [Pg.462]
