For the parameters representing the chemical effects, we first considered the set of values estimated by Hueckel (1997) using an interpretation of the permeation tests of Fernandez and Quigley (1991) (i.e., Fo=-0 029, Po=l-32, fl=3.45 ). With these parameters, the chemical consolidation for the tests at 160 kPa was greatly overestimated.
