Hoxsey therapy

Although the sale of Chaparral per se is banned, it evidently may still be used in herbal mixtures sold commercially, for example, Jason Winter s Herbal Tea, which contains chaparral, red clover, and an undisclosed root from a flower, and which is reported to cure or benefit cancer patients (Walters, 1993, pp. 139, 140). Red clover, incidentally, is an ingredient of the Hoxsey therapy. 

Heinerman s penultimate chapter is titled Traditional and Clinical Therapies for the Treatment of Cancer. It is divided into sections on Vitamin-Mineral Therapy, Laetrile, Hoxsey Therapy, The Kelley Method, The Gerson Therapy, Essiac, Comfrey, and Chaparral. These subjects are also covraed in the several other books cited herein, such as WaltCTs (1993), Moss (1992), and Pelton and... 

Hoxsey Therapy discovery dates back to 1840, when Harry Hoxsey s grandfather experimented on a horse, trying various herbs growing around the farm. The compositions have been provided in Chapter 6. 

Ausubel mentions therapies such as Krebiozen, the Gerson diet, Essiac tea, Coley s Toxins, the Hoxsey Therapy, and Stanislaw Burzynski s antineoplastons, etc., a number of which are further described, for instance, by Moss (1992) and Walters (1993). These therapies have aU been involved in govemment-led prosecutions.

In spite of these positive attributes, Hoxsey s formulation could not pass the evaluation of the medical establishment. However, it did survive longer than any of the other unconventional therapies of the last centuiy.
