How to carry out a simple distillation

Increase the heat slowly until the liquid starts to drip into the receiving vessei at a rate of about one drop every 2 seconds. If the temperature is constant (i.e. it does not vary more than 2-3 °C), 

Remove the heat source, allowing the apparatus to cool down and the remaining drops of distillate to run out of the condenser into the receiving flask. 

When cool, dismantle the apparatus, wash it out with an appropriate solvent and dispose of the
