Horizontal Presses for Direct and Indirect Extrusion

All of the extrusion presses dealt with so far, Avork on the direct method of extrusion, in which all of the billet particles move and, if billets of great length are extruded, an essential portion of the extrusion power is consumed by the skin frietion in the container. [Pg.90]

The axis of the ram may be adjusted by means of setscrews. When extruding indirect a solid disk is mounted in the die-carrier instead of the die and the die-holder. This solid disk is provided with a small chamfer on which the die and the die-holder are caught when the die-carrier is traveled out. [Pg.92]

Behind the counterplaten there is a die-carrier shifting device - not shown in the diagram - with the same type of runout table as used for direct extrusion, as well as a shear to cut off extrusion and discard. [Pg.92]

The design which has been described in the foregoing, is only recommended for extrusion presses up to 500 tons capacity. With heavier [Pg.92]

The container is shifted by two horizontally arranged pistons sealing against the die is effected at a high power, whereas shifting is performed at a lower power. For this purpose each piston rod is provided with a small plunger piston. [Pg.94]
