Holmium selenides

DySe2 is prepared from the elements by heating in a vacuum for 6 h at 1170 K, Checherni-kov etal. [1]. DySe2 x with x up to 0.45 is obtained by ampule synthesis like DySe s (see p. 306). Excess Se is sublimed off at 390 to 520°C (sublimation at 580°C leaves a residue consisting of DySeg and Dy2Se3), Kuznetsov etal. [2]. [Pg.308]

An orthorhombic (3-ErSe2 type structure is found for DySe2 x with a = 16.67, b = 15.99, c = 11.99 A, independent of temperature between the preparation temperatures 390 and 520X and almost independent of concentration [2]. The space group is Cmma-D J, (No. 67) [1]. Measurements of the susceptibility at 78 to 300 K (a Xg vs. 1/T plot is given in the paper) establish Curie-Weiss behavior with p = 8 K and Heff = 96.72 xIO J/T ( 10.43 Xb). close to the theoretical value [1]. [Pg.308]
