History of plotting in three-way analysis

It is interesting to take a look at the historical development of three-way analysis and how different pioneers in psychometrics used plots for their data and results. The history of three-way analysis starts with the work of Cattell in 1952 and ends somewhere in 1980. Anything after 1980 can be called present time . In the historical article of Cattell [1952], no plots are shown. The classical articles by Tucker [1964,1966,1967], also show no plots. The examples and the analyses are introduced as numbers. The same can be said about the article of Levin [1965], [Pg.179]

A general conclusion is that in the early years of three-way analysis, not much emphasis was put on displaying data or results. This is expected, given the algebraic and algorithmic difficulties encountered. Many authors preferred equations and tables over plots. The few [Pg.179]
