Hirsh funnel

Add 10 ml cold ethanol (volume may vary) to the brown solution and place in an ice bath. Filter the cold solution using a Hirsh funnel. Collect the precipitate and repeat this procedure. 

We do not want the seeds that are in the bottom of the separatory funnel to come through onto the bolting cloth so place the sieve on top of the Hirsh funnel. Hold the separatory funnel over the Hirsh funnel (remove the stopper) and very carefully allow the lower layer to drain into the funnel. Turn on the water aspirator, but do not allow that black filter pad on the funnel to become dry, because the eggs tend to collapse. 

Attach a funnel (Hirsh preferred, but Buchner acceptable) to a 2 liter filtering flask and connect it to a water aspirator.
