Synthetic fibers, high-performance aramid fiber

A high performance synthetic such as aramid fiber or TCP will have a friction coefficient... [Pg.105]

For example, in bulk appHcations as thermal insulation, synthetic mineral fibers (glass or slag fibers) have adequately replaced natural asbestos fibers. In sprayed insulation coatings, asbestos fibers have been replaced, for example, by vermicuhte. As replacement for asbestos textiles, clothing made from aramid fibers or aluminized glass fibers is being offered (see High PERFORMANCE FIBERS). [Pg.356]

As shown in Table 3.3, the productivity of all synthetic fibers in 2002 was 34.906 MT at an annual growth rate of 4.2%, and that of other chemical fibers was 349 KT at a growth rate of 4.2%. This includes 240 KT polyurethane (PU), 40 KT polyvinyl chloride (PVC), 13 KT poly(p-phenylene benzohwthiazole) (PBT), 10 KT hydrophilic fibers, and 53 KT high-performance fibers, which includes 35 KT aramid fibers. [Pg.144]

Synthetic cellulose yams were developed between 1880 and 1910, first from a nitrocellulose solution, and later as copper rayon and "viscose rayon . The cellulosics are often called half-synthetic because the raw material is a natural polymer. The most important fully synthetic yarns were developed between 1935 and 1942 - polyamides (PA66, PAG), polyester (PET), and acrylic yarns (PAN copolymers). Another half-century later, many high-performance fibers were introduced, for example aramid (PPTA), gel-spun polyethylene, and carbon fiber. [Pg.914]
