The entry/exit rate constants of alkylpyridinium ions into/from hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride and acetate (CTAC and CTAAc) micelles have been determined by TRLQ. ° The nature of the surfactant counterion was found to have only a slight effect on the values of the rate constants. The effect of the chain length of the alkylpyridinium was important, and the results showed the usual decrease of kg by a factor close to 3 per additional methylene group. The rate constant kg was around 10 M s irrespective of the cormte-rion and the alkyl chain length. 

Average value obtained using 2,6-diphenyl-4-(2,4,6-triphenyl-l-pyridinio)phenoxide, 1-hexadecyl-4-[(oxocyclohexadienylidene)ethylidene]-l,4-dihydropyridine, l-hexadecyl-5-hydroxyquinoline and l-hexadecyl-6-hydroxyquinoline, average deviation <9 % calculated from [47d].
