Hermetic drift

The sample treatment is executed as follows The sample is located inside the chamber. The SFM scanner is retracted by about 8 mm from the sample. Then the chamber is closed by the lid. In a hermetically sealed diode array, no optical adjustments can be made. Routine checks for wavelength accuracy with holmium filters showed maximum deviations of 1 nm with our equipment, which should be sufficient for most work. If the data can be exported from the program, then any drifts can also be compensated for computationally, and some new operating software has this feature incorporated. 

Although the technique of placing a thin plastic film over the sample diminishes the loss of volatiles in DPC experiments to an acceptable level during isothermal work at or near room-temperature, as isothermal reaction temperatures are increased typically to 60 °C or above a hermetic capsule with a UV transparent lid is recommended to avert baseline drift (Bair and co-workers, 2003).
