Heidenhain, Rudolf

Rudolf Heidenhain published in 1870 a long description of the appearance of glands in the body of the stomachs of fasting and fed dogs, as well as those in the stomachs of rabbits, pigs, and frogs. His paper is illustrated with 24 lithographs, some colored. Heidenhain s distinction between chief and parietal cells and his deduction that parietal cells secrete acid have already been summarized. ... 

Rudolf Heidenhain wrote that Rudolf Klemensiewicz of Graz had had the brilliant idea to isolate a portion of the pyloric part of the stomach in the manner Thiry had used for the intestine (Fig. 4-4). Thus stimulated, Heidenhain himself constructed a pouch of the acid-secreting portion of the stomach." ...
