Health care workers influenza vaccine

Influenza vaccine is recommended annually for children aged >59 months with certain risk factors, health-care workers, and other persons (including household members) in dose contact with persons in groups at high risk. SeeMW/ 2006 55(No. RR-10) 1-41. 

Adult immunizations are important to document as well and include vaccines such as pneumococcusl (for elderly and those at risk for pneumonia), influenza, hepatitis B, and tetanus. Although not an immunization, skin testing for tuberculosis might also be included under this section in high-risk patients (elderly, health care worker, or immunocompromised patient).

Vaccinate health care workers against influenza to protect them and their patients from influenza. 

The impact of nosocomial influenza in critically ill patients may be diminished by judicious use of immunoprophylaxis and chemoprophylaxis. Hopefully, targeting high-risk children (older than 6 months of age) and adolescents (Table 7) (82) for annual preseason influenza immunization will afford those at greatest risk some protection against influenza if they are hospitalized during a community outbreak. It is also appropriate that all health care workers in pediatric intensive care settings (PICU and NICU) receive then-annual influenza vaccination to avoid infection and transmission of influenza to their patients.
