Hazardous materials training is required for all employees involved in the movement of hazardous materials. These requirements include general awareness, function specific, security awareness, and in-depth security training. These training requirements are very detailed and are found in Parts 172 and 177 of the DOT regulations. 

Hazardous materials training for the company can be adopted to meet the operation. If the company does not handle or carry certain classes of hazardous materials, then training time does not need to be spent on topics related to those materials. The instructor simply tells the employees that the company does not carry that material and moves on. However, it is important that employees have a general awareness and knowledge of the hazardous materials regulations, the Hazardous Materials Table and how to use it, and so on.
