Hazard identification worst case scenario

The hazard assessment is to include identification of a worst-case scenario and other more likely scenarios for release of a regulated substance, and analyze the off-site consequences of such releases. The release and consequence assessment is to include the rate, duration, and quantity of the release, the distances for exposure or damage (using atmospheric, called "F" stability and a 1.5-m/s wind, and most-often-occurring conditions), populations that could be exposed, and environmental damage that could be expected. [Pg.94]

Percutaneous absorption studies utilizing rhesus monkeys have one Important single advantage. That is, their skin type and absorption characteristics seem to be similar to humans. This is of utmost concern since the purpose of this study is to simulate the human case. This is not a toxicology study, and it should not be the purpose of this study to estimate a worst case scenario as in a hazard identification study. Thus, in spite of the many shortcomings of the described procedures, monkey percutaneous absorption studies could play an important role in pesticide risk assessments. [Pg.90]

In common with using prevention as a basis of safety, it is essential that a full evaluation of the hazards of the process is carried out, before the type of protective measure is chosen and designed. The identification and definition of the worst case scenario is particularly important as, in contrast to prevention, any protective measure has to be able to cope with this worst case runaway reaction. In addition, the course of the runaway reaction has to be fully characterized and evaluated using the techniques described in Chapters 3 and 4. [Pg.115]

Identification of likely sources of hazards (human error, software etc.) The storm scenario in the worst case could result in very many fatalities. [Pg.177]
