Hamilton dendrimer

Cole-Hamilton el al. reported one of the first dendritic effects. Dendrimers based on polyhedral oligomeric silsequioxane (POSS) cores were synthesized (Figure 4.26) the dendrons of this dendrimer were functionalized on the periphery with 8, 24 and 72 PR2 arms respectively (R = Me, Et, hexyl, Cy, or Ph).[36]... 

This proven host system was transferred to dendrimers by functionalising the periphery of POPAM dendrimers with the acyclic Hamilton variant (Fig. 6.13). After monofunctionalisation with an amino group on the isophthaloyl system, it could be multiply covalently bonded to the dendrimer. In this way, up to fourth-generation POPAM dendrimers could be peripherally embellished with barbiturate receptors. The mode of action of the individual dendrimers as multivalent...

It should be mentioned here that soluble supports are not always innocent systems but can in fact alter the reaction in rather unexpected ways Cole-Hamilton and coworkers reported on dendrimers with 16 PPh2 groups on the periphery. This system was applied in the Rh-catalyzed hydroformylation of 1-octene and linear/branched ratios (l/h) of 13.9 were obtained, while a small-molecule analogue showed an l/b ratio of 3.8 (13) [24].

Cole-Hamilton and coworkers [132] anchored trialkylphosphines on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) (Scheme 2.37). The dendrimer-bound phosphines were placed on the periphery of the dendrimer either by radical addition of secondary phosphines to vinyl groups or by reaction of Si-Cl bonds...
