Group VII Donors Halogeno-complexes

Iridium(IIl).—Group VII Donors. Halogeno-complexes. U.v.-visible spectral studies and ion exchange experiments indicate that the anomalous electrical conductivity of [IrCl ] in aqueous solution arises from aquation and ion pair formation as shown. °  

ESCA measurements on the series of complexes KgprXg] (X = Cl, Br, NO2, CN, or 5 ox) reveal that the ability of ligands to withdraw electron density from Ir decreases in the order NOj CN jox Cl Br I. Comparison with related Ir species shows that the Ir 4 f-,12 binding energies increase with increasing oxidation state.
