Another way to make the catalytically active metal center more Lewis acidic is to attach a highly electronegative center such as fluorine. We have been especially interested in the preparation of organometallic fluorides of Group-4 metals owing to their importance as polymerization catalysts. 

Herein we report the syntheses and characterization of selected organometallic group 4 fluorides as examples for the versatility of the fluorinating reagent. 

There is an extensive chemistry of substituted sulfur fluorides of the types RSF3 and RSF5 examples of the former were mentioned previously. The SF5 derivatives bear considerable resemblance to CF3 derivatives, with the principal difference that in reactions with organometallic compounds the SF5 group is fairly readily reduced, whereas the CF3 group is not. 

Very little has been reported of the organometallic and co-ordination chemistry of Group 11 and 12 fluorides. The area of copper fluorides has been given the most attention, driven presumably, in part, by the role copper ions (and in particular...
