Luminescent, trinuclear-mixed dithiocarbamato-xanthato gold complexes, [Au3Cl(S2CNR2)(S2COEt)(p-dpmp)] where R = Me, CH2Ph and dpmp = fe(diphenylphosphinomethyl)phenylphosphine, PhP(CH2PPh2)2 have been prepared and their optical properties were investigated.398... 

An example of this is the gold-thallium complex n[Au(CN)2] [69], prepared by reaction of T1N03 and K[Au(CN)2]-2H20 in the 90s by Patterson et al. This group carried out a pioneering study of the luminescence properties of this complex and their theoretical interpretation. The structure showed a complexity that made the analyses difficult. Thus, neutron diffraction studies showed thallium-gold interactions of 3.446 and 3.463 A, shorter than the sum of their van der Waals radii (3.62 A) in one of the three crystallographically-distinct Au sites in the crystal. 

Fackler and co-workers were able to correlate the relationship between the intermolecular Au- -Au interactions and the presence of photo-luminescence in a series of binuclear annular gold(I) dithiophosphonate complexes with different extents of intermolecular Au-Au interactions [58,59]. This not only enables one to predict the presence of any weak intermolecular Au- Au interactions based on the observed luminescence properties of this class of complexes, but also allows one to estimate the relative extent of such interactions.
