Glycosides sugar components

When a nucleic acid base is N-glycosidically linked to ribose or 2-deoxyribose (see p.38), it yields a nucleoside. The nucleoside adenosine (abbreviation A) is formed in this way from adenine and ribose, for example. The corresponding derivatives of the other bases are called guanosine (G), uridine (U), thymidine (T) and cytidine (C). When the sugar component is 2-deoxyribose, the product is a deoxyribonucleoside—e. g., 2 -deoxyadeno-... [Pg.80]

Digitoxose occurs as the sugar component of the glycosides digitoxin, gitoxin, and digoxin, from any of which it is easily obtained on very mild acid hydrolysis. [Pg.159]

One of the most widely used methods for the formation of C-glycosides involves electrophilic species derived from the sugar component. Some representative examples, shown in Figure 7.5, include oxonium compounds, lactones, enones, carbenes, and enol ethers. Once formed, nucleophiles can be induced to react with these reactive species, thus providing tremendous diversity in... [Pg.290]
