Glycopeptides vancomycin

The column was 25 cm long, 4.6 mm I.D. and packed with Partisil 10. It is seen that linear curves were obtained for three different solutes and two different moderators in n-heptane. Scott and Beesley [14] obtained retention data for the two enantiomers, (S) and (R) 4-benzyl-2-oxazolidinone. The column chosen was 25 cm long, 4.6 mm I.D. packed with 5 mm silica particles bonded with the stationary phase Vancomycin (Chirobiotic V provided by Advanced Separations Technology Inc., Whippany, New Jersey). This stationary phase is a macrocyclic glycopeptide Vancomycin that has a molecular weight of 1449.22, and an elemental composition of 54.69% carbon.

In a prospective, randomized trial in 34 drug abusers a short course of a combination of a glycopeptide (vancomycin or teicoplanin) with gentamicin was significantly less effective in right-sided endocarditis caused by S. aureus than a combination of cloxacilhn and gentamicin (9).

One example is the bacterial response to the challenge presented by the glycopeptide vancomycin - the bacteria simply altered the target. As noted by the authors, vancomycin is a clamp that binds to the D-alanine-D-alanine terminus of the peptide stem of a cell wall precursor, thereby preventing its incorporation into the cell... 

The glycopeptide vancomycin has two meto-chloro- -hydroxy-D-tyrosine residues 326, and it was shown (328) that the 3-pro-R hydrogen was lost in the biosynthesis, indicating retention in the -hydroxylation reaction. The 3-pro-S hydrogen was shown to be lost on formation of the olefin in the biosynthesis of mycelianamide 327 (329, 330).
