Glucocorticoids urinary tract

Mycophenolate mofetil has been compared with azathioprine in combination with ciclosporin and glucocorticoids in 65 children after kidney transplantation (32). The main adverse effects of this treatment were infections of the urinary tract and the upper respiratory tract, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Opportunistic infections with cytomegalovirus or cytomegalovirus syndrome occurred in 20% within the first 6 months and tissue-invasive cytomegalovirus disease in 3.1%. These results were similar to those in adults. 

Urinary tract A 51-year-old man developed biopsy-confirmed tubulointerstitial nephritis, a rare complication of vancomycin, after taking vancomycin for 4 weeks for MRSA bacteremia and osteomyelitis [54 ]. There was a concurrent exfoliative rash and eosinophils in the urine. Serum creatinine concentration improved with glucocorticoids, worsened when they were withdrawn, then resolved again when a second course was given. 

Urinary tract A 72-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis, secondary amyloidosis, and steroid-induced diabetes mellitus, who was taking glucocorticoids and low-dose methotrexate, developed an emphysematous pyelonephritis [76 ]. 

Diffuse target-shaped lesions of the skin eosin-ophilia and multiorgan involvement (DRESS) occurred after 4 days of treatment with nitrofurantoin for a urinary tract infection in a 77-year-old woman she recovered after high-dose glucocorticoid treatment [140 ].
