Germaaromatic compounds

Very recentiy, it has been reported that silaaromatic and germaaromatic compounds, stabilized by steric protection, react with Ss to afford the corresponding trithiametallolanes and/or pentathiametallepanes via the addition across the M-C (M=Si, Ge) double bond [94-96] (Scheme 33). 

Sila- and germaaromatic compounds react with elemental chalcogens to give the corresponding 5- and/or 7-membered-ring compounds via 1,2-addition to the M=C double bonds (Scheme 10).67 72... 

In contrast to the successful isolation and characterization of the kinetically stabilized sila- and germaaromatic compounds described here, their heavier congeners such as stannabenzene or plumbabenzene are still elusive and neither their isolation nor spectroscopic detection has been achieved. In addition, the synthesis of aromatic systems containing multiple heavier group 14 elements (polymetaUabenzenes) still remain as the next target molecules in future.
