General Rules for the Proposed Fractal Notation

Subscripts refer to the junctures or branching points in the molecule. If the branch point is a tetrahedral carbon, the subscript is omitted. When the branch point is identical throughout the structure, the atom (or group) is only cited once as a subscript. If, however, there are multiple branch points, they are sequentially listed for the outermost — innermost and separated by a period. [Pg.45]

Connector groups are listed again from the outermost — innermost and enclosed in parentheses as well as separated by periods. [Pg.46]

Core is denoted without parentheses at the far right and can be omitted if it is identical to the juncture or branching atom or group. [Pg.46]
